SHAPE+ platform for innovative music and audiovisual art, co-funded by the European Union, announces a new open call for artist submissions for its next working period: July 15, 2023 – July 14, 2024.
SHAPE+ aims to foster exceptional emerging talent, connecting them to local communities and audiences through collaborative residencies with multiple artistic outcomes, commissioned artworks, as well as one-off presentations and performances. Combining an open call and a curatorial selection, the participating festivals and venues will select a roster of artists to support each year.
The artists chosen for SHAPE+ must be willing to choose greener forms of travel when such choice is possible, and are expected to participate either in residencies that include artistic collaboration or one-off performances and presentations as well as publicity activities, educational events and artist meet-ups.
Artists can see more detailed eligibility criteria in the application form.

During its second year, the platform will welcome 2 new member organizations, expanding its list of partner festivals and venues to 15.
Support for Ukraine
With the war in Ukraine having passed a one-year mark, SHAPE+ would like to encourage its partners and audiences to resist becoming jaded by news about Russia’s invasion of this sovereign country – our help and support is needed as strongly as ever.

SHAPE+ announces the new roster of artists! The selection places a number of artists activating in visual arts alongside sound artists, DJs and music producers whose styles go from club music to free improvisation and spatial music. This new stage of the SHAPE platform is marked by an emphasis on residencies and, where possible, greener forms of travel.
Each year, the curatorial teams of all SHAPE+ festivals and organizations come together and choose a new roster of artists, disregarding divisions of genre, age or popularity. Rather, creative novelty and successful experimentation serve as core values, with additional emphasis on the inclusion of upcoming artists, and efforts to assure a balanced gender representation. Once a year, SHAPE+ platform announces an open call, and takes into consideration the submissions in the selection process. A second wave of SHAPE+ artists will be added to the roster throughout the year, featuring local artists involved in the residencies.
Check the list of artists to preview their works, and don't forget to keep visiting the SHAPE+ website - we'll be introducing all artists with interviews in the "Artist of the week" section!

This book celebrates the second phase of SHAPE (Sound, Heterogeneous Art and Performance in Europe), between 2018 and 2022. The platform supported mainly emerging and at times less explored innovative music and audiovisual art from various parts of Europe. SHAPE was run by 16 festivals and organisations that developed 192 artistic projects during this period. This publication is a collection of selected interviews with some of the artists involved in these projects.
We hope that these conversations will give you an insight into the diverse world of adventurous European sound and interdisciplinary artists who, with some exceptions, have escaped broader international attention. When speaking to the artists, we got to hear what motivates and inspires them, what backgrounds they are from, what pleases or worries them about their current situation (both creatively and socially), and where they hope to arrive. Their answers were just as diverse as their work, and there are many colourful opinions – sometimes even contradictory ones – which allow the reader to conjure a hypothetical future of the fields of music and art.
Beyond that, this book is a catalogue of names in music and audiovisual art that the reader might want to follow in the future. By nominating them for the SHAPE project, curators from 16 festivals wanted to draw attention to the idiosyncratic and innovative work they have done so far, and to suggest that these artists represent ideas, methods, and trends that will shape the nearest future of both aforementioned fields.
