ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE: KINGA ÖTVÖS, ADMINA, SOFIA ZADAR

The third ATOPIA residency we organize this year in Bucharest presents SHAPE+ platform artist Kinga Ötvös, in collaboration with Admina and Sofia Zadar. Born from the sparks of their strong personalities, their collaborative performance at CNDB will abstract the familiar noises of sports and transform them into an experimental auditory experience that redefines how we perceive the energy, tension, and sonic nuances of movement through a queer lens. For a deeper dive into their artistic universes, join us for a talk & listening session hosted by Bar Ton, and an online radio show hosted by Black Rhino Radio.

Kinga Ötvös is a shapeshifter and voice acrobat based in Berlin. With degrees in academic vocal and acting studies their art landed at the confluence of different territories such as music, theatre, drag and performance art. Kinga released an album called Fluid Oratorio and an EP Ice Requiem. Their music is an attempt to deconstruct form and music creation archetypes. Phrases that are reminiscent of sacral music are competing with cyborg voices in a fluid electronic context of ethereal soft-dark energies.

ADMINA is a DJ, producer, visual artist, live performer and founding member of the Corp. platform for electronic music artists and DJs representing individuals on the female and non-binary spectrum. They are also part of Arp148, a show that discovers, explores, and represents queer musicians, and they host a podcast show called Corpcast, which focuses on discussing the queer club scene and creating safer spaces in the music scene. Their personal projects include feminist poems, audio and video experiments, as well as dance and theater performances.

SOFIA ZADAR’s experimental pop compositions construct and unravel emancipatory futures, while mixing together intricate vocal harmonies, spoken word, organic textures and highly processed electronic sonic structures. Their performance aesthetic is rooted in the desires of local queer communities, while lyrically exploring subhumanist and utopian visions through a trauma-informed lens. They are currently producing their first LP, a vast and metamorphic album informed by worms, hyphae, neurodivergence and the resilient arts of living on a damaged planet.
